By Chris Nelson. June 27, 2021. When Florida Governor Ron DeSantis renewed the State of Emergency due to the fake pandemic for the seventh time in April, backlash was instant. The original declaration of a Public Health Emergency signed by DeSantis on March 9, 2020 turned a massive amount of authority over to the State Public Health Administrator for managing the fake pandemic (Read the order here: https://www.flgov.com/wp-conte…/orders/2020/EO_20-52.pdf). This began the Florida shutdowns that lasted the good part of 2020. Another order issued by DeSantis on March 17, 2020, 2020-68, turned over authority to local officials to close Florida beaches and limited alcohol sales. (Read here: https://www.flgov.com/wp-conte…/orders/2020/EO_20-68.pdf) The major kicker was order 20-70 issued by DeSantis on March 20 which shut down nearly all businesses in Broward and Palm Beach Counties deemed by the government to be "non-essential" and turned over all authority to the County's unelected County Administrator to make these determinations and extend it as long as she saw fit. These orders led to unparalleled economic damage and civil rights violations of which had never been seen before in the State of Florida. Mask mandates were passed and citizens were fined and had their businesses shut down for disobedience. (Read: https://www.nbcmiami.com/news/…y-mask-ordinance/2274605/). Snitch lines were set up and neighbor turned on neighbor as fear and loathing crept across the state. On April 1, DeSantis issued as "Safer at Home" order that directed citizens to "limit their movements and personal interactions outside their home to only those necessary to obtain or provide essential services or essential activities. (Read it here: https://www.flgov.com/wp-conte…0/EO_20-91-compressed.pdf) Over the following months, DeSantis issued one emergency order after another micromanaging nearly every aspect of Floridian's lives from travel to vacation rentals to food and alcohol consumption to beach and park use to walking the dog, and local governments issued orders that went even further. Each of DeSantis' orders are catalogued here: https://www.flgov.com/covid-19-executive-orders/. Over time as Floridians cried out to be free, Governor DeSantis took action to eliminate his previous orders and used his executive authority to limit local governments overreach. He canceled fines and pardoned those who faced jail time for Covid violations. In May he finally ended all of the remaining Covid restrictions in Florida and today, he allowed his original declaration of a Public Health Emergency to expire. After 15 months, Florida is back where we should be. Yes, Governor DeSantis is still much better than Cuomo or Newsome.
